About
In 1984, a 501 bed, community hospital in Brooklyn, NY decided to help local Medicaid patients by creating a managed health care plan focused on delivering quality, cost-effective health care services. Today, Health Plus operates in all five New York City burroughs, including Nassau County, Suffolk County and Westchester and works to provide free and affordable healthcare for nearly a quarter million members. As one of the fastest growing managed care organizations in the area, Health Plus’ community efforts have been recognized by noted entities such as the New York State Department of Health and Crain’s New York Business, where they were ranked fifth on the Crain’s New York Business list of the largest managed care organizations in New York City.
Challenge
To provide New York residents with quick access to information on health care services, Health Plus relies on numerous departments to contribute content for different sections of the Web site. Before implementing RedDot, Health Plus’ 16 departments sent their content update requests to two developers responsible for maintaining the site. The site was managed in a CVS version control system, which required users to upload a file, modify it, create a new version and then save it for publication on the Web site.
Soon, Health Plus was looking to revamp the public Web site, which at the time had few pages, lacked multiple language variants and was difficult to navigate. “The CVS system was not very intuitive for end-users,” says Alexander Pilosov, Web Developer at Health Plus. “There were too many steps to follow for managing and posting the content and little to no training on the system.”
Another top priority for Health Plus was effectively communicating with their enrolled members who came from culturally diverse communities where different languages were spoken. The CVS system lacked the capacity to store content in multiple languages, prompting the Web team at Health Plus to search for a content management system that could handle their translation needs.
Solution
Health Plus chose RedDot not only for its ease-of-use, but also for its strong multi-lingual capabilities. In addition to translating content, end-users also needed the ability to easily update and post their own information on the Web site, regardless of department or role within the organization. RedDot’s strong workflow abilities also appealed to Health Plus, which needed greater visibility and more seamless coordination between content reviewers and approvers.
Health Plus also chose RedDot for its personalization component, which would be used for the organization’s new corporate Intranet. RedDot’s extensive user controls provided the security that Health Plus needed when it came to staff members accessing certain documents that varied according to topic and confidentiality.
