Description

This course is designed to provide project builders with advanced technical knowledge of and experience with RedDot CMS. This class focuses on reuse, integration and customization.

Students will learn techniques for reusing project components between projects. Integrating RedDot CMS with external systems such as relational databases and document management systems is covered. Students will learn how to use the RQL API and other tools to customize the RedDot CMS user interface. A few additional topics are covered as well, including the Web Compliance Manager module and creating sitemaps for RedDot CMS Web sites.

Objectives:

After completing the Advanced RedDot CMS course students will be able to:

  • Share content classes, templates, pages, content and assets between projects
  • Integrate content from relational databases, Webdav servers and document management systems into Web pages
  • Make content from projects available to external systems using XML
  • Expose project content as an RSS feed
  • Implement a strategy for developing and deploying ASP.NET applications with CMS
  • Use Active Templates to make CMS templates more flexible
  • Configure Web scripting code to execute properly in SmartEdit mode
  • Write CMS plug-ins to extend the functionality of the CMS user interface
  • Write RQL programs to simplify complex tasks
  • Add functionality to the Template Editor and the CMS Text Editor
  • Use the Web Compliance Manager to report on standards-compliance across a site
  • Customize CMS-generated sitemaps
  • Use CMS to generate a Google sitemap

  • Developing stand-alone applications that interact with CMS
  • Writing CMS plug-ins
  • Using RQL to enhance SmartEdit mode
  • Writing user-defined jobs
  • Incorporating RQL into workflow

CMS Interface Customization

  • Adding functionality to the CMS Text Editor
  • Adding functionality to the CMS Template Editor

Skill Requirements

This course is designed for experienced RedDot CMS project builders.

Pre-requisites

Participants should possess the following skills:

  • Attended the RedDot CMS Project Builder course
  • Implemented at least one website using RedDot CMS
  • Expert web scripting skills (classic ASP is recommended, but a solid understanding of any web scripting environment is sufficient)
